Clayhurst
Clayhurst is a rural community located near the provincial border, along the Peace River, and south of the rural community of Flatrock. Clayhurst here includes other historic communities including Golata and Chmelyk. It is about a 75 km (46 mile) drive east of Fort St. John along the Cecil Lake Road and the Clayhurst Road. The Boundary Grazing Reserve is located just to the north. The land varies in this general area from flat quarter-sections within the Agricultural Land Reserve to smaller lots and areas with significant topographical constraints outside the ALR.
Settlement came to this area slowly in the 1920s. By 1932 there was sufficient population to open a school, then a store in 1938. Also in 1938 a ferry began operating across the Peace River at Clayhurst Landing which allowed for easier transportation of goods and increased settlement. A bridge would finally be constructed here in 1986.
