2009 - 2010 Peace River Regional District
Rural Official Community Plan

Goodlow

Goodlow is a rural community 50 km (32 miles) northeast of Fort St. John and very close to the Alberta border. It is a largely flat area featuring lakes (Boundary Lake and German Lake) and Alces River (or Moose River), Boundary Creek and other tributaries. The river runs southwards toward the Peace River. The community of less than 200 people is surrounded by farming operations and oil and gas development. Except for some land along the watercourses, the land is within the Agricultural Land Reserve. There are several smaller lots along Cecil Lake Road and 211 Road but most of the land is in quarter-section parcels.

Settlement began around 1919 as families migrated westward from Alberta. The community was named after two early settlers whose surnames were Good and Low. The name became official in 1966 when the post office was opened. The post office and a store are still located in the community. There is one church, the Evangelical Free Church of Goodlow. The children of Goodlow attend Clearview School in nearby Flatrock.
