Progress
Progress is a residential community surrounded quarter-section parcels, mostly used for forage and cattle production. Except for the residential lots the area is within the Agricultural Land Reserve. The community is located at the junction of Road 255 and Hart Highway No. 97S, about 11 km (7 miles) west of the Kiskatinaw River, and about 37 km (23 miles) west of the city of Dawson Creek. Two creek, Fox Creek and Livingstone Creek, meander northeastwards through the area to the river.
Progress was settled by a number of First World War veterans who took a loan from the Soldier Settlement Board in 1921. In the 1930s a store and post office opened. The Farmers’ and Women’s Institutes built their first school in the early 1930s and their community hall in 1932. One of the early settlers, Archie Livingstone and his wife, subdivided a series of 0.4 ha (1 acre) lots along the highway in 1963, creating the Livingstone Subdivision. Since then, the community hall was closed and they now share with the McLeod Community Hall, which was built in 2003. A small recreational field, a church, a public works yard and solid waste transfer bins are located in the community.
