Rose Prairie
Rose Prairie is a farming community about 34 km (21 miles) north of Fort St. John. The land consists mainly of quarter-section parcels with deeply-incised creeks cutting through the area toward the Beatton River which borders the community to the east. The community surrounding Rose Prairie is comprised of mixed farming as well as some oil and gas activities.
Agricultural settlement of this area, formerly known as Whiskey Creek, began in 1919. The community was re-named Rose Prairie in 1929 when the first post office opened. The first North Peace Fall Fair was held in Rose Prairie in 1930. The closest school is the Upper Pine Elementary School, which opened in 1971. There are two churches in the area; the Upper Pine Gospel Chapel and the Rose Prairie Gospel Tabernacle. The Rose Prairie Curling Club has operated a small curling rink. Other clubs in the area include the Rose Prairie Women’s Institute, Rose Prairie 4-H Club, and the Upper Pine School Parent Teachers Association.
