Demographic Issues
As of 2009 there were about 3500 households and 8564 people in this Rural Area. There has been population growth in some areas of the region and a decline in others. Overall, across this rural area, there was a slight decline of since 1991.
In addition, the population is aging. Household sizes have been decreasing as young people move into towns or out of the region and younger couples are having fewer children. The changing demographics have had impacts on community clubs who are seeking members and volunteers in a shrinking population.
In 2006 the Peace River Regional District with assistance from Urban Systems prepared a report regarding regarding the demographic profile of the Rural Area Official Community Plan.
How can communities adapt to a new demographic profile?
