Questions & Answers
What is an Official Community Plan?
An Official Community Plan (OCP) is a general statement of the broad objectives and policies of the local government respecting the character of existing and proposed land use and servicing requirements in the area covered by the Plan.
What is the purpose of the OCP?
The OCP serves as a foundation for all policies, regulations, and decisions pertaining to land use and development in the Regional District. The Plan provides guidance for economic, environmental, physical design and development, and social considerations. It considers the quality of life, future growth, community development, transportation, amenities, services, and economic, environmental and social well-being. A summary sheet is available here.
How many OCPs exist in the Regional District?
Currently, the rural area is covered by 3 different OCPs (Dawson Creek Rural Area [1986], North Peace [1993], and West Peace [1997]).
The Peace River Regional District (PRRD) is concurrently replacing these existing OCPs with updated versions.
The North Peace Fringe Area OCP is currently under public review.
The South Peace Fringe Area OCP is being developed and is accepting public input now.
The West Peace Fringe Area OCP has not begun yet.
Each municipality has its own OCP.
What input do you want?
We want your opinions regarding land use issues and PRRD programs. The OCP is an expression of community priorities. Tell us what is important and what is not important for the Regional Board to consider when issues arise in this rural area. What should we see protected and what should we work to improve?
What does the PRRD have jurisdiction over?
The PRRD directly provides few services, but participates with numerous other agencies and organizations to deliver a wide range of government services. As a stakeholder, the PRRD has varying degrees of influence. This OCP will provide policies to help inform and guide the Regional Board and staff when delivering, participating, and considering government services.
How is this OCP being drafted?
The Work Plan being followed can be read here.
